CAS Manager - Cincinnati

Are you an accounting professional with a positive attitude who is seeking stimulation and opportunities to grow professionally, but within the context of a company that respects you, your happiness and your wellbeing? Excelsior would love to consider you for our growing team! At Excelsior, our golden rule is “happy employees make happy clients” and here you are more than just a number – you are the reason we do what we do. Here are just a few of the things that make us so unique:

  • Quality of Life – Prioritizing your happiness means we’re intentional about the culture we’ve carefully crafted at Excelsior since first opening our doors in 2018. Just as we are very picky about the professionals we hire, we are equally selective about the clients we serve. Simply put, we only work with people we like to work with.
  • Overtime – While we are all hard workers during business hours, we are respectful of your personal time and accordingly, we do not ask employees to work overtime. At Excelsior, what you seek is what you get. Want to work 20 hours a week? 30? 40? We are hiring for full- and part-time roles and will respect the hours you agree to commit to Excelsior each week.
  • Sabbaticals – Taking an extended break from work shouldn’t have to mean taking an unpaid leave or finding a new job. That’s why all Excelsior employees are eligible for fully paid sabbaticals once every 5 years. Your first sabbatical starts at 8 weeks, then increases by 2 weeks every 5 years thereafter (i.e., 10 weeks at 10 years, 12 weeks at 15 years, etc.)
  • Stipends – We offer all employees annual stipends to cover professional development costs ($2,500 / yr. for CPA’s & $1,500 / yr. for all others) and expenses to maintain and customize your home office ($700 / yr.).
  • Best-in-Class Benefits – Our standard benefit offerings include a 401(k) plan with a flat 3% employer contribution, high quality health insurance (70/30 company/employee premium split), dental & vision insurance (50/50 company/employee premium split), as well as short-term disability, long-term disability and life insurance that are all fully paid for by the company.
  • Excelsiversary – Each year, on your anniversary with the company, Excelsior will reimburse you up to $300 to spend on something fun. Think a nice night out with your bestie, season tickets to Kings Island, a concert you’ve been really wanting to see – you name it!
  • Our Journey from “ME” to “WE” – Shouldn’t you get to reap the benefits of the hard work you put in taking great care of our clients and in turn helping our business to grow? Of course you should! That’s why at Excelsior, we are collectively working toward a strategic goal of becoming an employee-owned business within the next 5 years.
As a Client Accounting Services Manager, you will be the face of Excelsior and will be primarily responsible for the services we provide to your clients. Responsibilities for this role include those typical of an experienced Controller or Finance Director, such as:
  • Oversight and completion of the month-end close process
  • Financial statement preparation and analysis
  • Coordination of and preparation for financial statement audits and reviews
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Budget preparation and reporting
Our clients come in all shapes and sizes. About half are nonprofits, about a quarter are earlier-stage start-ups (primarily in the software/technology and life sciences sectors) and the remaining quarter are typically closely held or owner operated companies in all manner of industries, including professional services, manufacturing & distribution, retail, private capital and other small-to-medium sized businesses. Although we avoid overtime except in emergency situations, work at Excelsior can still be fast paced at times. Candidates well suited for this position enjoy a faster paced environment and typically have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a controllership or commensurate role, and/or a CPA license and equivalent public accounting experience. Our highly skilled team members also typically possess all or most of the following:
  • A positive, friendly demeanor
  • An ability and interest to work independently (we do not micromanage and depend on team members to be proactive and take initiative)
  • A strong foundational knowledge of U.S. GAAP and a solid grasp of your debits & credits and related technical accounting skills (if you’re not the sort of accountant that can answer the question “what’s the journal entry?” for most any transaction, this is not the role for you)
  • A hard worker
  • A penchant for seeking and implementing process efficiencies
  • A desire to join a small but growing family of professionals making a real difference for our clients
